View DetailsLesotho's unique topography, situated entirely above 1,400 meters, presents distinct thermodynamic challenges to the welding and construction sectors. High-elevation conditions mean lower atmospheric pressures and lower absolute humidity levels, which alter the cooling rate of the weld metal and the dissociation dynamics of the arc shield.
With major developments like the Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP) Phase II—including the Polihali Dam and extensive transfer tunnel systems—there is an unprecedented demand for high-strength, structurally reliable steel joints. Our low-hydrogen electrodes are customized to mitigate cold cracking hazards induced by rapid nighttime temperature drops in the Maloti Mountains.
In addition to civil works, Lesotho's diamond mining operations in Letšeng and Kao subject heavy earthmoving machinery to extreme wear and impact loads. The structural maintenance of draglines, conveyor systems, and heavy-duty chutes requires welding consumables with superior impact toughness at low ambient temperatures.
Thin mountain air speeds up heat dissipation from the weld pool, increasing the risk of martensite formation in the heat-affected zone (HAZ). Preheating combined with a controlled diffusible hydrogen level (under 5ml/100g) is critical to prevent hydrogen-induced underbead cracking.
From infrastructural pipe joints to mining wear repairs, our consumables are adapted to local metalworking workflows.
Maseru's urban growth demands reliable concrete reinforcement and structural frames. Our AWS E6013 electrodes provide an easy-striking arc and stable burn-off rate, making them ideal for field-welding rebar, structural angles, and general building frames under wind-exposed conditions.
The Letšeng and Kao diamond mines operate in abrasive basaltic formations. Our basic low-alloy electrodes and hard-facing variants allow on-site maintenance teams to build up worn bucket liners, repair heavy loader frames, and weld high-strength steel structural columns with minimal down-time.
High-pressure water conduits for the LHWP require perfect penetration and flawless radiographic testing. Our cellulose AWS E6010 and low-hydrogen AWS E7018 work in tandem to secure root-pass integrity and high-fill deposition, resisting the dynamic forces of mountain water flows.
Shijiazhuang Tianqiao Welding Materials Co., Ltd was founded in 2007 located in 30 kilometers in the southwest of Shijiazhuang. Our factory traffic is very convenient just 20 kilometers to the west of 107 national highway, also near to the Shixing and Jingzan highway. We have strong technical force, complete product testing equipment so that we can keep stable product quality. Our company is composed of production department, technical department, R&D department, QC & Laboratory, Sale department, Logistic department.
Under the spirit of "supreme Quality, honesty, win-win cooperation", we are willing to achieve common development and create brilliance with all of customers. We are looking forward to establish mutual benefit, long-term and stable relationship with customers and distributors all over the world.
Securing a constant flow of welding consumables into Lesotho requires a robust logistic roadmap. Operating out of our Shijiazhuang manufacturing facility, we manage the entire supply chain with rigorous oversight. Cargo is moved efficiently via rail links directly to Tianjin Port, ensuring minimal delay in transit to domestic ports.
From Tianjin Port, containers are routed via major ocean carriers down to the Port of Durban in South Africa—the primary maritime gateway for the Southern African region. From Durban, we utilize trusted intermodal road haulage systems directly crossing into Lesotho through the Maseru Bridge or Maputsoe border posts. We handle all custom clearance documentations, ensuring compliance with the Southern African Customs Union (SACU) regulations to eliminate administrative bottlenecks.
By bypassing multiple layers of intermediaries, we guarantee factory-direct pricing combined with reliable delivery windows, protecting local Lesotho construction timelines from supply-side volatility.

By integrating advanced silicate binders and precise rutile/basic ratios in our formulations, we keep moisture absorption levels extremely low. This directly mitigates hydrogen embrittlement risks in structural fabrications.
We source premium steel core rods with tight control over trace elements like Sulfur (S) and Phosphorus (P). Low impurities ensure excellent hot crack resistance and highly consistent electrical conductivity.
Our development of non-copper coated solid wires (AWS ER70S-6) reduces heavy metal particulate emission inside shop environments, protecting welders while providing reliable feeding properties.
Addressing structural engineering queries regarding the storage, selection, and application of welding electrodes in Lesotho's environment.
Low-hydrogen basic electrodes are highly hygroscopic. In the high-altitude, cold winters of Lesotho, moisture condensation can form on the coating. These electrodes must be stored in dry, moisture-proof warehouses. Prior to use on site, AWS E7018 electrodes should be rebaked at 300°C to 350°C for 1 to 2 hours and kept in holding ovens at 100°C–150°C to ensure the diffusible hydrogen content remains below critical limits (preventing cold cracking).
For general-purpose civil fabrication, such as residential window frames, gate components, and structural trusses, AWS E6013 (J421) is the industry standard due to its stable arc, easy control, and excellent aesthetic finish. For high-stress load-bearing beams or columns, AWS E7018 or AWS E7016 basic low-hydrogen rods are required to ensure adequate yield strength and impact resistance.
AWS ER70S-6 solid wire is used in gas metal arc welding (MIG/MAG) and provides continuous feed rates, which drastically increases deposition speed compared to manual shielded metal arc welding (SMAW). It generates negligible slag, reducing cleaning times. However, for outdoor work in windy highland areas of Lesotho, SMAW electrodes (like E6011/E7018) or self-shielded flux-cored wire (E71T-11) are preferred because they do not require external shielding gas that could be blown away.
All our products are manufactured under strict compliance with the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System. We perform exhaustive mechanical testing (tensile strength, yield point, elongation, and Charpy V-notch impact testing) and chemical composition analysis on every batch of raw wire rod and coating material to meet American Welding Society (AWS) specifications.
